Tracy Morgan Critically Injured, Another Comedian Dead in New Jersey Truck Crash

Cranberry Township, New Jersey

Actor and comedian Tracy Morgan was critically injured early Saturday morning in a crash that involved a tractor trailer and several other vehicles. Morgan’s friend and mentor, fellow comedian James “Jimmy Mack” McNair, was killed in the accident. Also injured was Morgan’s assistant, Jeffrey Millea, and comedians Ardie Fuqua and Harris Stanton.

The crash happened at around 1:00 a.m. near Cranberry Township, New Jersey as Morgan and his entourage were returning home from a night of standup comedy in Delaware. Authorities say 35-year-old tractor trailer driver Kevin Roper failed to notice in time that traffic had slowed in front of him and swerved to late to avoid colliding with Morgan’s limo van. Roper’s rig slammed into the limo van, overturning it, prompting a chain reaction crash that involved another big rig, an SUV and two passenger vehicles.

According to USA Today, Roper was charged with death by auto and four counts of assault by auto for his role in the crash. He surrendered to authorities on Saturday.
